When soldiers are being trained for battle, it is with the understanding that they will be so well prepared that most of what they do is automatic when the time comes. They should know their commander’s voice and be able to listen and maneuver according to his every command. In addition, they have been taught certain skills regarding their personal safety and how to stay alive while moving forward to win the battle.
Black belts in most karate styles will train themselves with repetitive movements, so that when it is time to fight, most of what they do is instinctive.
Jesus said, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” (Matthew 7:24-27 NKJV)
The situations that rock our faith are the very things for which we need our faith to be rock solid!
So, here is the question of the day: How is your training coming along?
If you are not in a storm, chances are…you will see one very soon. Are you training for the storms? Are you living out your faith by focusing on and walking out the teachings of Jesus. Is your house built upon the rock? Is your mind aligned to His teachings and to His voice?
For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. (1 Timothy 4:6-8 NIV)
Today would be a great day to examine your training plan!
Challenge: Write down what you are doing to strengthen your faith. Are you spending time listening to the voice of Jesus each day? Are you in His Word? Do you listen when you pray or do you talk the whole time? Are you living what you know to be the truth?
